About Us

The Lordz of Finesse BBoyy crew was created and established in 1993, by its two founders Gabriel “Kwikstep” Dioniso and myself Delfino “Fienz” Rodriguez. The crew was formed at a time in Denver when gangs and gang violence dominated the city. Our city was divided by gangs and made it hard for us to find others wanting to dance and celebrate the essence of hip hop culture again. Gangs ruled Denver and separated our city during this time and BBoy’n (breakin or breakdancing) was not the thing to do.  We had to overcome several obstacles to even be able to express ourselves through our dance and the Hip Hop culture.  As we started traveling around the city we started uniting and building with other people that still had the same feelings and fire about the dance and Hip Hop culture as we did. The great thing about going around the city and building with others was once we connected it didn’t matter that we were from different sides of town. We united through Hip Hop and the crew kept growing.  By 1995 our crew was making a name for ourselves around Denver. Other crews began to form around town and a new bboy scene was being created in Denver right before our eyes.  Denver had not seen a scene like this since the 80’s with  all the Denver pioneers before us Break Patrol, Dancers Unique, D & S Connection and Radio Active just to name a few. After the bboy explosion of the 80's we were the first crew in Denver to breathe back life into the bboy scene here in Denver.

In this brief two year period we had been inspired by the GhettOrigonals play that came through Denver back in 92'.  Zulu Gremlin, Ken Swift, Crazy Legs, Kwikstep, Wiggles & Fabel helped ignited a flame in our crew that could never be put out. We practiced everyday real hard at any place that would allow us to practice and use their facilities.  The first practice place for the Lordz was at CHAC (Chicano Humanities and Arts Council) art gallery on 42nd Tejon. We then moved to the Aztlan Recreation Center and Hoarcemann middle school. Our crew met daily at La Casa Del Funk hip hop shop located at 21st and Larimer Street. The building has been torn down and a piece of our history with it. The shop owner Nancy “Asia” Yu relocated to San Diego and helped create the BBoy summit annual event. The Lordz attended the BBoy summit in 1995 and represented our city and made our presence known. We were featured in a video of the summit alongside pioneer bboy’s the Rock Steady Crew; the Video was sold worldwide putting Denver and the Lordz on the map.

1993 thru 2008 have been great years for the Lordz as we watched and helped build the hip hop scene in Denver. I personally helped create the hip hop roots for the Spot youth center which became the Mecca for bboy crews in Denver through the mid to late 90’s. The Spot was used for bboy’s to build their Breakin, MC’n and Dj’n skills. The Spot also served as a place to go to do legal Graffiti pieces and practice graffiti skills with other graff writers in a safe environment. Over this time span we have created other chapters of the Lordz of Finesse around the United States. We now have crew members in New Mexico, Chicago, New York, Portland and Los Angeles. Several members of our crew have gone on to do bigger and better things. Three of the most noted right now are, Mario “DJ Chonz “Rodriguez who is now a Dj for KS-107.5 becoming the first live mix show DJ on FM radio in Denver history. Another member in Los Angeles Julius “Africa Sam” Callahan has appeared in Pirates of the Caribbean and did voice over’s for the Grammy award film Ratatouille. And Finally Gabriel “Kwikstep “Dioniso has appeared in the film Brown Sugar and has performed in the first off Broadway hip hop show called “Jam on the Groove”. Kwikstep has also created two off Broadway shows himself “Soular Power” & “Innaviews” each of which has had rave reviews in the New York Times.

We want to continue to teach what was taught to us, and pass the torches down to generation after generation to help keep our culture of hip hop alive. As pioneers in Denver it is now our job to pass the knowledge we have learned down to others starving for knowledge. We are not just a crew of bboys; we are a crew with many talents, visions and aspirations. We wish to unite with all on the same path... Peace N Blessings

Fienz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The crew was and still is established on preserving BBoying and Hip Hop in its rawest forms possible.
